Coffee FAQS

We love to use any of our single origin beans in the espresso machine - however the Frassati Blend was made with espresso drinkers in mind.

Oily coffee is a sign of rancidity -

Oily beans come from a chemical reaction between the internals of the beans and oxygen. If a bean is roasted too long where the internal shell cracks and lets out CO2, it will react with Oxygen almost immediately and create that oil. Here at Verso L'alto we strive to roast our coffee according to the third wave - a high quality roasting technique in order to preserve the integrity of the bean.

Yes, we will grind your beans on request. However, we recommend buying the beans whole. Part of the experience of fresh roasted coffee is grinding the beans just before brewing - this allows for the best flavor profile.

No! We do not add anything. Our product is 100% coffee beans.

Our coffee is cupped by professionals right at the farm where they are grown. Similar to wine, cupping notes are subjective and describe the flavors, not the ingredients. For example, a coffee might have notes of dark chocolate, vanilla bean, or anise, even though it doesn't actually contain those ingredients.

The flavors of coffee, or cupping notes, come from the coffee bean itself, as well as how it's roasted and prepared. These flavors are natural properties of the coffee, and are influenced by many factors, including:

  • Terroir: The environmental conditions where the coffee is grown, such as the soil, temperature, rainfall, and sunlight
  • Farming: The farming method, including the harvest time
  • Processing: How the coffee is collected and processed
  • Roasting: How the coffee is roasted
  • Preparation: How the coffee is prepared, such as the brewing method

The warehouses we get our coffee from feature moisture and temperature controlled environments that eliminate the risk of purchasing moldy coffee.

InterAmerican Coffee traders measure moisture on all PSS and arrival samples. If moisture exceeds 12%, it indicates mold risk, prompting immediate supplier notification.
